EDEKA Future Market in Nauen, Germany

#3: Flexibility thanks to Waterloop

Why did you decide in favour of a waterloop system from Schweitzer for the refrigeration system? What do you expect from it?

Ben Balon
Engineer EDEKA Minden-Hannover:
We have been working on the Nauen project for 5 years now. As we knew right from the start what a great project we had in our hands from a structural point of view, we also wanted to think in terms of sales. The aim was always to be flexible. No static centralized refrigeration system, no pipes laid in the floor, instead a hall with movable elements: the flexible market of the future. In this respect, too, it is now an experiment that we will monitor closely, among other things to draw comparisons with the use of a centralized refrigeration system.

Christian Dorfmann
Managing Director of the EDEKA Future Market in Nauen:
The fresh food departments in our new store consist of flexible counters and can be quickly and easily expanded, reduced in size or generally adapted to the respective requirements. As there will be more and more convenience products and sustainable products that need to be refrigerated in the future, it is a great advantage for our new EDEKA store if we can quickly and easily connect several refrigerated cabinets. And we can do this without having to call in a specialized technician.

Bernhard Schweitzer
Owner & CEO Schweitzer:
As a world first in one project, we are combining an exciting, inspiring shopping experience with the latest sustainable refrigeration technology in the areas of refrigeration plant engineering (Waterloop), refrigerated cabinets (up to 500g R290) and flexible counter systems (plug in with connection to the Waterloop). With our flexible systems, we also make it easy and uncomplicated to change departments to meet changing customer needs.

The cheese department, connected to a waterloop system, can be quickly and easily extended or rearranged.
